FOLK |
Blue Water Ramblers
The Blue Water Ramblers sing extraordinary folk music- the folk song of Michigan, America and YOUR life. We perform wherever people want to celebrate: Folk festivals and concerts, paddle wheelers and lake ships, in cities and out in the woods, on stages and around campfires, at church gatherings and traditional dances. For a really good time, use the Blue Water Ramblers for your next event!
The Blue Water Ramblers' repertoire comes right out of our Michigan life experiences and the history of the Great Lakes region. It includes lake shanties, lumberman ballads, union rallying cries, farmers' paeans, Michigan humor, '60s civil rights and protest music, love songs, gospel music and children's ditties. Everyone agrees that these combine into a versatile repertoire to the delight and entertainment of their audiences. "I think my hero, Woody Guthrie, would approve," opined Banjo-Jim. "We're singing the people's songs about the people's lives and they can join right in and sing along."

Balduck
Mountain Rambler's
The Balduck
Mountain Ramblers is a Detroit-based acoustic quartet. Since 1984
they have been dedicated to playing the finest American Stringband
musics.

Named after
one of the few topographic features on the northeast side of Detroit,
this group's repertoire ambles freely from Bluegrass to Western
Swing, Folk to Sea Chanties, Pub Tunes, Gospel, A Capella - no lyric
or musical genre can be considered safe when they are on a roll.
While this
style of programming makes them hard to categorize, they have delighted
audiences around the region. In southeastern Michigan they are "Detroit's
favorite whatzit band" (Larry McDaniel, WDET FM 101.9).
The band's
philosophy dictates that it's not what you play, it's how you play
it. All four Ramblers graduated from a now defunct Prep school on
the city's east side and have been singing together in one form
or another since 1970.

As
a duo, Bob and Carl have been entertaining for almost 30 years now.
There really isn't a concert or show that they haven't played one
time or another. They have shared the stage with many of Detroit's
top bands and attractions over the years. Being part of some of
Michigan's rich event history. Many years now have seen the boys
singing and playing in Eastpointe, Rochester, Centerline, Royal
Oak, Novi, Farmington and Mount Clemens. They will continue to delight
audiences wherever they get the opportunity to express their rare
gift.
In the early
1980's, they're interest in Folk music
led them to discover a little appreciated form of traditional
music that descended from Irish story telling and rhyme. Many of
the rich and descriptive tales of early Irish life struck a resonant
chord with the boys, and they pass on this fascination to audiences
both young and old. After years of re-telling and performing these
windows into the Irish condition, they have recorded a collection
of their favorites: Irish Hearts.
"Our
live performances give us a chance to entertain people while meeting
lots of new fans at every show. We really enjoy reaching out through
music, stories and song, even when we are not trying to fulfill
our community service obligations . Come out to the show, sit down,
relax enjoy one of your favorite songs, or just heckle us for a
while. It's all good. "

Hi,
my name is James Davis. After years performing as an award-winning
singer, percussionist and harmonica player in bands and studios across
the USA, I had a vision of a duo that could perform an equal, or even
better, show than a band with many more members. To make that dream
come true, I was lucky enough, in 1986, to team up with Don Hails,
a multi-talented, award-winning musician and singer.
With
our ability to play multiple instruments, and Don’s knowledge
of the latest advancements in musical technology, we were able to
form “Rich Eddy’s Rockin’
Oldies Band” (long name, little bitty band-big
sound & show). We now enjoy phenomenal success performing 150-200
shows per year in venues across the Midwest (i.e., fairs, festivals,
community concerts, library programs, corporate and private parties).
We are very proud to have an educational, fun assembly and sock
hop show for schools, K-12.
How did we
come up with the name Rich Eddy? Well, we thought that Eddy was
a real cool name and we idolize the legendary guitarist, Duane Eddy.
Rockin Oldies is what we do. We always thought we would love to
be rich, hence the name, "Rich Eddy's Rockin' Oldies Band".

Blend the best of the 50's through 90's rock and roll, rhythm and
blues, acapella, and doo-wop; add a touch of Top 40; throw in some
Swing and Motown; stir in some high-energy musicians who not only
can sing lead and background vocals, but can play a variety of instruments;
and you have the recipe for The Fantastics.
The Fantastics
have been performing together for over
20 years. They have played all over Michigan and parts of Ohio.
They have performed on stage (either separate or as a unit) with
such legendary performers as, Jerry Lee Lewis, Tommy James and the
Shondells, The Contours, The Coasters, Mitch Ryder and the Detroit
Wheels, Beatlemania, Jethro Tull, Spirit, Rush, Rare Earth, and
many more.
Whether performing
in concert, at a wedding, outdoor festival, or any indoor or outdoor
venue, they have the ability to rock your socks off, soothe an aching
heart, and tickle your funny bone all in one night.
With their
unique mixture of talent, showmanship, and a terrific sense of humor,
they will never let you leave without doing their best to totally
entertain you, because they are forever giving it their all. Whether
you prefer to dance or just sit back and watch, you'll be glad you
spent time with The Fantastics.

The
Patin Trio - Three sisters bring to you the musical memories from
the 30's and 40's
Hello
Everyone,
I'm Gerri,
the one on the left hand side in the photo. I am married with 5
children ranging from the ages of 12 to 21. We have lived in Michigan
all our lives, in the Grand Rapids Area. My husband has worked in
a factory for 25 years and also owns his own sexton business. We
are Catholic and I have had all my children go through the Catholic
School to the 8th grade then attend the local Public High School.
I volunteer at the Catholic school as the coordinator and purchasing
agent of the concessions for the sports department and the banquets.
I not only sing but have my own hand painted chocolate candy business.
I also spend time at the public school as a lunch lady. Every Sunday
I am the cantor (song leader) at my church and I direct our choir
every month.
I'm
RoseAnn, the good looking one on the upper right. Don't tell Gerri,
though, she may take scissors to the photo and change the name to
The Patin Duo. I was born and raised in a small town north of Grand
Rapids, Michigan. I recently bought a house there. It is a real
fixer upper, but it's mine. I work for a mortgage company in Grand
Rapids when I'm not on the road singing.
My name is
Pat Patin, the one in the center of the photo. I am the sixth child
of eight and oldest of the Trio, though I look the youngest. I’ve
worked full time as a factory worker for 29 years, Head of Quality
Control past 16 years, for a small finishing company in Rockford,
MI. I own my own home on 30 acres of farmland and woods. I have
horses, cats, a dog and a flock of wild turkeys.

Formed in 2004, the NorthStar Jazz Sextet has quickly become one of Detroit's hottest jazz acts, having performed at jazz festivals and nightclubs across Michigan and the Midwest. Past performances have included the Detroit International Jazz Festival, the Michigan Jazz Festival, the Idlewild Jazz Festival, the Summer Solstice Jazz Festival, Rusty's Jazz Cafe (Toledo, Ohio), and the "Ed Love Show" on WDET FM. The group can be seen regularly at Baker's Keyboard Lounge (Detroit), the Union Bar & Grill (Kalamazoo), and Cliff Bell's (Detroit). North Star employs a 3-horn sextet format, partly inspired by the T. S. Monk Sextet and Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers. Leader Carl Cafagna has installed a "rolling" personnel system, with depth at every position in the group. This ensures a consistent level of excellence despite the busy schedules of band members, and also gives North Star a particularly wide palette, with 4 different front-line configurations. Regular sidemen include Detroit pianist/composer Scott Gwinnell, Dr. Scott Cowan, trumpeter and Professor of Jazz, Western Michigan university, saxophonist James Hughes, drummer Scott Kretzer from Toledo, Detroit bassist extraordinaire Shannon Wade, and Brad Felt on Euphonium, pared with Cafagna's tenor and soprano saxes as well as flute. Repertoire consists fo original works by Carl and other band members, leading composers such as Horace Silver, Donald Brown, Wayne Shorter, and Benny Golson, and choice jazz standards. Matt Collar, from allmusic.com, calls North Star a "combination of muscular swing and harmonic intellectualism", and dubs us "the epitome of post-bop professionalism". Mark Stryker, from the Detroit Free Press, describes Carl Cafagna as a "brawny saxophonist, with a gift for organizing a band". North Star Jazz is one band you'll want to see again and again!

Grammy-nominated
singer, Kate Hart created "Detroit Women with Motor City Express"
based on the successful group "seattly Women in Rhythm and
Blues." Seattle women were pulled together for one show in
seattly and still going strong 18 years later. Since returning to
Detroit the winter of 2002, once again, Kate wanted to sing with
"other women" and formed this all-star revue with the
top women R & B singers in the Metro Detroit Area.
What
is unique about the Detroit women show is that the women are all
elad-vocalists who are on stage, singing together all of the time.
Each of the five to eight women dance and sing one to two songs
a piece, while the otehr women provide back-up vocals. One critic
has described it as ". . . going to an irreverent kind of church."
The show is backed-up by a four piece band who have appeared and
toured with everone from Meatloaf to Kenny Loggins to Delbert McClinton
to Bog Segar to Roy Orbitson and Hall and Oates.

has been thrilling crowds in nightclubs and concert halls as well
as corporate and civic arenas.

characters made popular by Dan Aykroyd and the late John Belushi

Goenner and Dave “Elwood” Albrecht. This “Dynamic
Duo of Blues” is backed up by a rock solid
4 piece rhythm section and a blistering 3 piece horn section. Experience

Revue and find out why one music critic wrote, “..this is
one dynamic rockin’ rhythm and blues band that kicks the brass

Randy
Volin was born in the late 50’s in Detroit Michigan and his
first memory memory of becoming hooked on pop music started the
night the Beatles debuted on the Ed Sullivan Shoe. For some reason
he still doesn’t quite comprehend, Randy became totally enthralled
with music, especially the Blues, but he didn’t learn how
to play an instrument until 1971. After Jimi Hendrix died, Randy
bought his first guitar, a used Fender Jaguar (which he still has),
and within 2 years he had acquired his first gig as a bass player.
In 1977, Randy
landed a record contract with A&M records with his band The
Look, and toured extensively while releasing three albums. In 1986,
Randy finally went back to his roots, and dedicated his life as
a player to the Blues.
From 1986 till
now, Randy has played in the Tri State area of Michigan, Illinois,
and Ohio continuously, while releasing 2 solo CDs. He has played
with and opened for artists such as Joe Cocker, Stevie Ray Vaughan,
Eddie Money, Koko Taylor, Junior Wells, Albert King, Lonnie Brooks,
Cheap Trick, Steve Marriott, John Mellencamp, The Kinks, Greg Kihn,
Peter Frampton, April Wine, Mitch Ryder, Sonny Landreth, Johnny
Johnson, John Mayall, Jeff Healy, Hubert Sumlin, J. Geils and many,
many others. Randy is a self-confessed gear head and also operates
Rockin Daddy’s Vintage Guitars, Inc., just north of Detroit.
One visit to his web site and you’ll quickly discover that
Randy also has an envious stash of some of the most desirable vintage
gear ever made.

She has appeared with Betty Lavette, Midnight Star, The Contours, The Ojays, Morris Day & the Time and Gladys Knight. Born and raised in Detroit, she attended Michigan Christian College, where she was often chosen as a featured vocalist.

Some say that
innovation is dead,
long since buried beneath old-school soul
that dons contemporary threads.
But that ain't
so.
Put your ear
to the ground of this new sound
born of funk, rock and soul
born of melodies that ain't part-time mellow,
but full-time bold.
This sound
that plays your eardrums
like the congas
making your head bob and you wonder... Hmph.

PIANISTS |
Jeff Lehman has been a musical fixture on the Detroit music scene
for quite some time. His musical journey began in Sterling Hts.
Michigan. It was there that Jeff began musical schooling at age
9 learning piano, voice and theory. The benefits of this training
would be reaped in later years when Jeff began recording, writing,
producing and performing live.
Throughout
his illustrious career Jeff has worn many musical hats: singer,
keyboard player, producer, writer, adjudicator and teacher. In 1985
he taught piano at The Music Castle in Royal Oak Michigan. A then
unknown drummer named Chad Smith, taught drums in the next room.
It is these many hats that have rounded out Jeff's musical experience
and have made him a rare gem in a very competitive industry.
Jeff has performed
live and in the studio with a variety of local and national luminaries.
He has performed as a young 2nd generation member of Jim Gold &
Gallery, known for the hits, "Nice to be With You", #5,
1972, “I Believe in Music", #10, 1972 and "Big City
Miss Ruth Ann", #30, 1973. He has also performed with the late
Cub Koda's 1992 version of Brownsville Station, "Smokin' In
the Boys Room", #1 1974, as well as prominent regional acts,
"Art-of-Fact", "The Dream" and the late Elvis
Shelton.
In 1993 Jeff
opened his first record company/publishing firm LFM Records. This
label was responsible for success for both Jeff and other artists.
In 1994 a demo Jeff had recorded and co-produced for Jim Gold had
resulted in a studio/publishing deal for Jim with former Motown
Chairman Clarence Avant, who coincidentally also owned Sussex Records,
Jim Gold and Gallery's former record label.
Since 1997
Jeff has gained air play in Canada, United States and Switzerland
for his songs “Don’t Look Back” and “Everything
Must Change”; which gained much air play in late 2003. The
songs gained recognition without the help of national label support.
During that same time period Jeff earned a Masters Degree in Business
and became Microsoft Certified in Word, two things that he admits
help him with regards to doing business in the field of Music.
Currently Jeff
writes, produces and performs live and in the studio. He also still
judges international piano and vocal competitions for the AGM (American
Guild of Music); a position he has kept since 1992.
Catching Jeff
live is a special treat. Jeff is known for his soulful singing and
fluid keyboard dexterity. He performs live with groups, and as a
dueling/lounge piano player, often spicing up the night with "Vegas"
style comedy routines and impersonations of Michael McDonald, Bob
Dylan, Barry Gibb and Joe Cocker with remarkable accuracy.
These are only
some of the incredible in-roads made by Jeff Lehman. Given his ambition
and talent, there are bound to be more to come.
You can read
about Jeff in this Detroit
News article from November 7, 2004.
